Why Do I Have Black Lines on My Mesh After Set Smooth?

A commonly run into problem when first starting out in Blender is the seemingly spontaneous appearance of black lines after editing an object. Thankfully, there is a quick and painless fix to these problems that’s never failed me.

bad normals blender

  1. Enter edit mode and select all(A)
  2. Press Ctrl-N
    recalculate normals

There you go! If that didn’t fix your problem, ask in the comments.

ohh yes i hate that ... even if i calculate them outside and inside it still doesnt work, i ve tried removing doubles aswell... still desnt work

help...

what the problem usually is is that you have internal lines or faces that are interfering with the normal direction calculations such as a two 6 faced cube that were merged will have a face in the middle of the two and you will need to delete the face to get everything looking right
